This is no April Fools joke! We're modifying this 2002 Volkswagen Bug with the intent to show it in July at the Rollin' Into Roanoke car show! We purchased this bug a few weeks ago from a Roanoke resident. Here's what we did prior to today: changed the spark plugs, wires, ignition coil, and oxygen sensor (basic tune up). That took care of the "check engine" light being on. We will continue to tune it up as we make some aesthetic changes, but for now, at least it runs and drives. Here's our "Before" pictures. And then we thought it would be cool to park it in front of some awesome Roanoke businesses... This weekend we wanted to change out the wheels. This was fun and took a little extra time due to some customization. The bug came with a wheel configuration of 5 by 100 and the wheels we wanted to use were 5 by 114.3 so we had to add an adaptor to make the wheels fit. Then, some of the lug nuts were too long so we had to grind those down. Here's some photos of that process. Whoa! These wheels are BUGGED OUT!! Just adding these bigger wheels really changed the bug a lot... We're excited to work on the removal of the interior this week and hopefully get to chopping the top of the bug next weekend. Here's a mock up of what chopping the top will do to the overall look of the car. You can see that the top of the car isn't as high. We like to work organically, meaning we want to let the process inspire us and take us wherever it wants. But, here are a few photos that are inspiring us currently. We have a lot to do before the car show in July, but were confident we can make something cool before then. Thanks for being interested in what we are doing! If you have any questions or comments please leave them below! We would love to read them! Follow the hashtag #bloomwagen and use that if you see us out and a bout!
